Programme Thursday, May 15, 2025 at 16:00-21:00
16.00: Transport from Aarhus University to AU Viborg
Maximizing carbon capture in the field, while minimizing nutrient losses and GHG emissions.
This long-term experiment investigates very different cropping systems for their effects on the environment and climate in order to extract ideas for more resource efficient cropping systems that may be integrated with new biorefining technologies to provide both food, materials and energy. Also, crop mixtures with positive impact on biodiversity are investigated for their productivity, soil carbon impact, and N-fixation potential.
17:45: L38 Biorefining and Food by Morten Ambye-Jensen and Trine Dalsgaard
The Green Biorefinery – From agriculture to food, feed, materials, chemicals, energy, and fertilizers - all at once.
The Green Biorefinery exemplifies how green biomass can be efficiently converted into multiple desired products through integrated processes. By valorising environmentally friendly agricultural resources such as grass and forage legumes, the biorefinery supports circular bioeconomy pathways and reduces dependence on fossil-based input. This tour offers insights into scalable solutions that align with national and European sustainability objectives and offers farmers a product pathway for introducing more perennial grassland.
Green biorefinary of alfalfa for food protein.
Can you upcycle traditional feed biomass to food application and thus bypass the ruminants? What is the food quality regarding protein digestibility, functional and sensory properties?
18.15: L31 Flu-gas lab by Mads Ujarak Sieborg
Capture and valorisation of dilute flue gas CO2 from chimneys.
Anthropogenic CO2 emissions have again reached record levels, with most coming from diluted flue gas point sources (around 10% CO2) released from numerous smokestacks scattered across the landscape. Soon, this CO2 is expected to become a key building block for carbon-based molecules that could replace fossil carbon used in fuels and materials. In the flue gas lab, you will hear how AU researchers approach capturing and converting CO2 from chimneys using ancient archaeal microorganisms.
18:40: Network Tapas at Biogassen
19:15: Power2X, HTL, and more by Christian Dannesboe and Lars Ottosen
Engineering the Future: Power-to-X and Biogas Innovation at AU Viborg Campus
